=RP & In-Game Etiquette=
It is essential to remember that we are not our characters. Behavior that occurs in-game is expected to be handled in game and, vice versa, behavior out-of-game is expected to be handled out of game.
==General Conduct & Common Sense==
- If a situation is not explicitly covered by the rules, common sense applies. If you think something is against the rules, it probably is.
- No ruleset can cover every scenario. Attempting to exploit loopholes will be treated as a rule violation.
- Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse.
- Respect all players. While in-character (IC) themes may include violence, desperation, and conflict, out-of-character (OOC) harassment, derogatory language, slurs, homophobia, bigotry, or excessive toxicity will not be tolerated.
- Do not use OOC communication to manipulate IC situations.
==Roleplay Standards & Courtesy==
- Players must remain in character (IC) at all times unless in an admin sit or when a rule breach requires a pause. If a pause is necessary, a ticket must be submitted immediately.
- Voiding a roleplay scene is not allowed without explicit administrator approval.
- Logging off to avoid RP or consequences is forbidden unless due to an emergency. Upon return, the RP scene will resume from where it left off.
==Metagaming== | |||
Taking OOC (out-of-character) information and using it for IC (in-character) gain is strictly prohibited. Examples include:
- Using Discord messages or OOC chat to learn IC information.
- Recognizing someone by their username or voice without prior IC knowledge.
- Recognizing a character’s voice is at the **opposing** character’s discretion with no roll required.
- Sharing IC information in OOC channels for strategic advantage.
- Gaining knowledge of events your character wasn’t present for.
Additionally, only actions that occur in game or in the radio channel discord are considered IC. Do not use voice chat to discuss or coordinate character actions, plans, or interactions.
==Powergaming== | |||
Powergaming refers to forcing actions onto other players or roleplaying beyond realistic human limitations. Powergaming also covers the abuse of game mechanics, creating unreasonable or overpowered character builds, or other actions meant to give an unfair advantage. **This extends to hoarding massive and unrealistic amounts of resources or vehicles.** Examples include:
- Forcing another player’s character to act without their consent (e.g., “I shoot and kill you instantly” instead of allowing a reaction).
- Surviving fatal wounds or avoiding consequences unrealistically.
- Ignoring the physical or psychological effects of starvation, wounds, or infection.
- Playing an overpowered or "godlike" character with no weaknesses.
==Exploiting & Griefing==
- Similar to powergaming, exploiting bugs or game limitations to gain advantage or harm the server or other players is not allowed. Examples include:
- Duplicating items | |||
- Destroying bases or vehicles outside of raid tickets
- Unauthorized raiding or other bad faith actions.
Furthermore, to keep the server running smooth and the world furnished, the following will also be considered griefing:
- Dismantling structures, containers, or furniture to level up skills
- Dismantling vehicles with engine quality above 20%
- Excessive litter (this includes leaving behind car parts, logs, pipes, etc.)
==Character Portrayal & Immersion==
Characters must be above the age of 18 and portrayed in a realistic and immersive manner fitting a post-apocalyptic world. This includes:
- Clothing should reflect survival conditions, not modern fashion trends or meme outfits. We won't strictly police outfits, but if something feels excessively out of place, staff may step in to maintain integrity and immersion.
- Names must follow standard naming conventions common in the early 2000s (no symbols, numbers, or modern pop-culture references).
- Famous names or blatant references to existing media franchises are not allowed.
- Characters should reflect the setting’s societal themes—modern slang, unrealistic backstories, or out-of-place behaviors should be avoided.
- A character's personality should not revolve entirely around their sexual or gender identity. Characters must be well-developed individuals, not self-inserts or personas designed solely for ERP, romance, or personal wish fulfillment. While relationships may develop naturally, characters should have motivations, flaws, and goals beyond seeking romance or sexual encounters.
==Sensitive & Explicit Roleplay Topics==
NWO is strictly an 18+ server due to the mature and potentially distressing themes present in a post-apocalyptic setting. Players may encounter violence, trauma, death, and other dark themes. **The following rules cover sensitive topics but is still required reading.**
While we aim for an immersive experience, the following roleplay may only occur in secluded & private settings with permission of all involved:
- Torture | |||
- Graphic and/or excessively gruesome depiction of injuries
***Sexual Roleplay (ERP) is strictly forbidden in the server.***
The following topics are **strictly prohibited** in all forms, including active participation, explicit or detailed reference, or accusations within roleplay:
- Rape | |||
- Pedophilia | |||
- Beastiality | |||
- Necrophilia | |||
Lastly, while characters may exhibit bigoted attitudes as part of their roleplay, **the use of slurs in-character is strictly forbidden.** Prejudice should be portrayed through nuanced roleplay rather than offensive language, and must be a character trait, not their entire personality. Furthermore, it should never be used as justification for targeting or harassing another character beyond reasonable in-character conflict.
=Radio Rules and Use= | |||
Mechanically Owning a Radio or a Walkie-Talkie, other than letting players use them In-Game, will give access to the https://discord.com/channels/1345174084128079923/1389282891556720781 channel, to communicate with other survivors. Communication is a powerful tool, and needs to be used properly.
Each Radio has a Broadcast Range shown in Kilometers. Mechanical Use of these items in game will already consider the Broadcast Range to see if communication is possible. When two players are too far from each other, they will not be able to talk.
## 🎙️ How to Use the Radio Channel
To post in the https://discord.com/channels/1345174084128079923/1389282891556720781 channel, players will need to follow a standardised template. This template can be personalised for graphical preference, but will need to maintain the exact same information.
Template: | |||
```**Transmission From [Name of the Location]. XX KM [Range of the Broadcast]**
[Text of the transmission here]```
The Location from which the Broadcast is happening **must** be a commonly known place, so that reading players can know if the Broadcast will reach them.
With high tier equipment (From 8KM Broadcast range onward), because of the size of the playable map, broadcasts will most likely be heard by everyone.
The Template has purely an OOC value, and unless IC specified through the actual transmission, the information of Location and Range are **not** public knowledge, and will be treated through the Metagame Rules explained here https://discord.com/channels/1345174084128079923/1383424344687906889
Pictures or Emoticons are prohibited as part of the Transmission Text.
*If a character is currently **not** Online when the broadcast is done, they will have to flag the Broadcast with an "[Offline]" in the Layout. Excessive use of the Discord Channel while the Character is Offline **will** be regulated by Staff.*
So that players can recognise each other (At least on an OOC level for smoother RP), members **must** have their character name in their Discord name.
## 📡 How to Answer a Broadcast
To answer to a specific Broadcast, players **must** open a Thread in which they will post their answer, that has to follow the exact same Template Rules.
Because of realism, Broadcasts on the Radio Channell will be deleted after a few IRL Hours. If a player misses the window to answer, it will mean the Character missed the broadcast.
## 📟 Rules for In Game Radio Use.
Because of the technology level in which the world has been stuck in the last 10 years, Walkie-Talkie and Radios cannot be used in certain ways.
- Characters will **not** be able to *whisper* while communicating through the Radio. Attempts to do so will result in broken broadcasts and sentences, nearly impossible to understand for any listener.
- To try and secretly use a Walkie-Talkie, every Stealth Attempt will receive a -4 Penalty to the Roll. Nearby Characters can then roll Perception.
- Because of the obvious difference between Dice Combat and Gameplay, it's prohibited to use a Walkie-Talkie from the moment the first **intent emote** [https://discord.com/channels/1345174084128079923/1383424243219431585] has been posted onward. Using a Walkie or Radio to send a message during a hostile situation *before* combat will count as Intent Emote by itself, If a character wishes to, they can Roleplay using the Radio, but the actual message **must** be sent or posted **after** the end of combat, regardless of its result.
- Characters must have their name (Or the name they're commonly known with) visible in chat, especially when they use the Radio.
## 💬 About Voice Changers and Voice Recognition
Because of the technology level and resources available, in normal circumstances characters will **not** be able to mask their own voice through artificial means. Other means might be used, but it's up to the listening characters to recognize the voice or not.
